Great news if you own a 2014 Samsung UHD TV! DirecTV has started offering 4K service to you. This new service will allow you to stream 20 different on-demand popular movies in HD directly to your television. Prices for the movies will range from $3.99 to $15.99 with a typical viewing window of 48 hours.
This isn’t the first time DirecTV has been at the forefront of new TV formats, with 2009’s 1080p content and 2010’s 24 hour 3D channel additions. By the end of 2014, they expect that customers will be able to launch an Xfinity 4K app that will allow them to stream even more movies and television shows on demand. Plans are underway to roll out a handful of 4K channels in early 2015, well before any cable companies will have the capacity to do so. In addition to being amazing news for DirecTV, this is also great news for Samsung which seems to now have surpassed Sony as the choice for techno-philes.
While this news might not seem so ground-breaking, it is in fact. DirectTV is putting their toe in untested waters with this move to 4K. The bad news: if you don’t own a 2014 Samsung UHD TV, then you won’t be able to take advantage of this new offering.
The good news: All new Samsung UHD TVs will be capably equipped to do so.
Maybe you want to change your Christmas list now?
